Rose to Chair Homeland Subcommittee on Intelligence and Counterterrorism

Congressman will also serve on Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery; Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittees on Health, Oversight and Investigations

Washington, January 30, 2019

Congressman Max Rose, an Army veteran who currently serves in the National Guard, will chair the Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Intelligence and Counterterrorism—the first Member from New York City to hold that post. Rose will also serve on the Committee on Homeland Security Subcommittee Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health and Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.

“Nearly 18 years since 9/11, it’s about time a New York City Member held this position,” Rose said. “There’s nothing I take more seriously than defending our nation and securing our homeland from terrorist threats. I’m honored to serve as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Intelligence and Counterterrorism where I will be laser focused on ensuring threats are being identified and addressed, and that New York’s first responders who are our first line of defense have the resources and information they need to do their jobs.”

Rose continued, “Through my work on both the Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittees on Health and Oversight and Investigations, our veterans will have a strong fighter and fierce advocate in making sure the VA lives up to the level of care our veterans deserve.”

Rose is the only Democratic veteran serving on the Committee on Homeland Security, and the only veteran with a healthcare background serving in the majority on the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Rose is the first post-9/11 combat veteran elected in New York City. He served as a Ranger-qualified Infantry Captain on active duty in the Army and he continues to serve in the National Guard. Rose deployed to Afghanistan where he earned a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Combat Infantryman Badge. After returning from service, Rose was the Chief of Staff at Brightpoint Health, a non-profit healthcare provider in New York City.
